Microneedling Fact Sheet – Pre/Post Care

Micro Needling is a minimally invasive procedure that causes tiny injuries in the epidermis and dermis, creates inflammation, triggering the body’s healing response. The “injury” in the skin, irrigates the rich red blood cells of the body to form new collagen and elastin.

Micro Needling is great for clients who suffer from acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, uneven skin tone and texture and is good alternative for an anti-aging treatment.
We do not treat clients with moderate to severe rosacea or skin that has moderate to severe active acne or other health conditions.

For clients that are used to IPL photofacials, there is a difference in the outcome of the skin from each treatment. Skin rejuvenation using IPL will brighten the skin and remove surface hyperpigmentation. While it will affect collagen repair, skin tightening and will heal the skin from the inside out, it does not cause wound healing in the same manner as Microneedling. Both treatments are safe and can be done comfortably with excellent results depending on the needs of the skin and the end point we are working to achieve.

Post-Care

Day 1 – Do not cleanse the skin or wet it. Moisturize with hyaluronic acid that is fresh. Do not apply old product or reuse product. Change your pillowcase and use a fresh towel – use care practices that avoid contaminating, wetting or irritating the freshly treated area. Skin will feel tight, hot and inflamed.

Day 2 – Cleanse the skin only with cold water and moisturize with hyaluronic acid or a growth factor serum. Use a clean towel to pat dry. Do not rub, scratch or otherwise pick at the skin for any reason.

The first two days post Microneedling, cleanse the skin with just cool water and be especially gentle to the area. The best way to keep the skin moisturized is hyaluronic acid or a growth factor serum. Some clients do experience peeling. If you do, please do not pick or peel it. Every client will have a different inflammatory and healing process so please treat your skin kindly during the healing process to ensure you have the best result possible with the least amount of risk.

Day 3-7 – You can start to cleanse with a gentle cleanser. Continue using only hyaluronic acid for moisturizing and AVOID medical grade products such as, salicylic acid, lactic acid, glycolic acid, RetinA, retinol and etc.

Day 8 – You may try to incorporate your medical grade skin care SLOWLY into your routine again. Always try a test patch to see how the skin reacts prior to full area application. Use discretion when returning to your regular skin care. Throughout the first week a powdered sunscreen is recommended if unable to cover the area from the sun.

For one week following your treatment we recommend against these activities:

• Wearing makeup
• Excessive sweating (gym, leisure exercises, yoga, hot yoga etc.)

• Avoid chemically treated water (pools, saunas, hot tubs, steam rooms etc.)

• Avoid tanning beds and direct sunlight – cover the area and wear powdered sunscreen

• Best practice is to avoid salicylic acid, lactic acid, glycolic acid, RetinA, retinol for one month following treatments, but some clients can return to them sooner. Test patch on reintroduction.

Please use your discretion in caring for your skin post treatment and do not partake in any activities that may risk your healing.

Please avoid the use of self tanning lotion or sprays for at least one month following the treatment. Gentle care includes no waxing, threading, exfoliation, laser service etc immediately after treatment.

4-6 week rest time is required between laser hair removal sessions and your microneedling treatment is recommended. Please be aware that in some cases microneedling may cause hair growth. Clients that are currently being treated for hair removal may want to hold off on getting this treatment until they have completed their series for hair removal.
