What is the SHR in-motion hair removal system and why is it virtually pain free?

The SHR hand piece delivers light energy that gradually heats the skin until the required amount of energy is delivered to the hair root.  Hair follicles are not damaged by a single high energy pulse, but by repetitive application of low fluence pulses that raise the temperature of the dermis gradually to the level needed to prevent hair growth. This leads to a far more comfortable customer experience.

By not exposing the hair root to a single high energy pulse, minimal trauma is caused to the skin. The In-Motion technique of sweeping the hand piece repeatedly over the treatment area virtually eliminates pain and is quick and effective.

What Clients Should Expect:

  • First 48 hours--may have some redness and hotness to the skin, warm to the touch and possibly a slight sunburn feeling. There may be slight swelling of the follicle for 1-4 hours after treatment. Aloe and and an ice pack, if necessary will help soothe the skin.
  • It may take up to two weeks before the hair is actually shed. Until that time it may appear as if it is still growing as the follicle is pushed to the surface and eventually falls out.
  • Clients should notice a 20-30% decrease in surface hair per treatment. If this percentage is not seen by session 3, extend or decrease appointment interval by one week.

Possible Side Effects:

  • Temporary mild discomfort from treatment, may feel warmth or tingling for 24 hours after.
  • Temporary swelling or redness in area--can be treated easily with use of ice and aloe.
  • Clients with history of severe hyperpigmentation and melisma should be treated with caution.
  • Hypopigmentation and scarring have occasionally been reported. Those with a history should be cautiously treated.
  • Slight swelling of the follicle is a “normal” reaction to laser hair removal and should disappear over 1-4 hours.
  • All patient concerns, side effects and complications should be addressed and documented.
